FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT PULI
• How do you pronounce Puli? Puli ( pronounced Poo-lee) is the singular and Pulik (Poo-lick) the plural of their name.
• Can the Puli see me? Yes he can, he is far sighted, so it is like seeing through a curtain of cords.
• Is he a cross between a poodle and what (Golden Doodle)? He's not a cross. He is a Pure Breed, he belongs to a very ancient Herding Breed; the Magyar tribesmen brought them into
• Are they good with kids? Generally speaking, like any other breed, there are variations among individuals. The good ones are wonderful family members, and will herd and watch over children, older or sick people. Pulik also are high energy so remember to keep them active, walking and playing with them on a daily basis. If you do not, your Pulik will find entertainment on their own, and their imaginations are brilliant!
Do they like to spend long periods of time alone? No generally Pulik like to be around people, so if you are leaving a dog for 6 - 10 hours without a dog walker or neighbor letting the dog out, the Puli may not be a good fit. Because Pulik are Herding dogs they like to work and if left alone for long periods of time, they will get frustrated and if you do not supply the entertainment, then they will find it on their own!!!!!!
• Do you have to form his cords? Cords form naturally starting at about 10 months of age. At this stage there is grooming to keep the cords separated, but once that stage is complete at about 12 months, the care becomes minimal, usually before and after bath time is recommended. The non-shedding, hypo-allergenic corded coat must be properly cared for, like any long hair, and the Puli must be bathed at least once a month, and most importantly dry him. If not fully dried, the coat will have an odor, which the Puli will find offensive. I use sweatshirts for the first hour to help soak up the water. If your Puli is in full cord, you will require a day in the sun, or a special dryer purchased at a Groomers Retail Store.
• Can I brush my Puli? Yes, but it will be difficult to maintain the coat, and if you really do not like the cords, perhaps a Puli is simply not for you.
• How old will a Puli get? 12-14 "year usual life span of the breed."
